Carlson Family Counseling, LLC
Amber Carlson, MA, LPC-S, NCC, CPT
I have a contract with the Kearney School District under the Clay County Children’s Fund where I hold a full caseload. I am currently not taking any new clients in Private Practice. Please reach out to another team member for support. Thank you!
I received my Masters in Counseling from MidAmerica Nazarene University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Play Therapist, and a *Certified AutPlay Therapy Provider. I am also an approved supervisor for provisionally licensed counselors in the state of Missouri. I use Non-Directive Play Therapy and AutPlay Therapy approaches to help children express themselves and learn emotion regulation, social and connection skills to help them thrive. Unfortunately parenting does not come with a rule book. Therefore, when working with children it is important to meet with parents often and give them the support they need and new techniques to try. Using Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) I work with children and their families who are healing from traumas. I use Client Centered and Solution Focused approaches when working with adolescents, adults, parents, couples and families. It is my privilege to be with you on your journey in reaching your goals and becoming a better you.
*AutPlay Therapy is a behavioral-based play therapy developed for children who have autism, neurodevelopmental disorders, and developmental disabilities. With this approach, children learn emotion regulation, social, and connection skills to help make every day life more manageable. AutPlay has been found very useful with children diagnosed with ADHD. Choosing who to share your healing journey with is an important decision — I'd consider it an honor to walk alongside you.
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a master's degree from the University of Kansas and over 15 years in the mental health field. While I work with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and self-esteem concerns, trauma is my primary focus — in my experience, it lies at the core of what brings most people into therapy.
As a trauma therapist, I'm fully certified in both EMDR and Somatic Experiencing, evidence-based approaches that help you connect with your own innate healing resources to move through past hurt. If you'd like to explore whether we'd be a good fit, please don't hesitate to reach out.
